Our Programs

The delivery model for all of MMCC’s programs is Accompaniment. Steve Reifenberg, a faculty member at Notre Dame University, defines Accompaniment as:

“…a partnership with the other, walking together. No matter the duration of the relationship, accompaniment encourages and cares for all dimensions of another person, and in the process recognizes our shared dignity. Building on the centrality of relationships for a happy and healthy life, accompaniment is a valuable concept for engaging constructively with others in a complex world.”

This is a model that is widely used by resettlement organizations around the country.

MMCC programs include:

Volunteer Team Program

Our volunteers help New Mainers navigate everyday life in Maine and build connections in their new community. Volunteers provide transportation to appointments and other essential destinations, assist with moving and setting up homes, organize donations, offer practical support, and help families access community resources.

Employment & Business Navigator Program

We connect New Mainers with employment opportunities, career resources, and business development support. By helping individuals explore pathways to work and connecting aspiring entrepreneurs with technical assistance, we support economic opportunity and greater financial independence.

Housing Program

Safe, stable housing is essential to building a life in a new community. We help families navigate the housing process, locate and maintain stable housing, furnish their homes, and access move-in assistance and emergency rental assistance when resources are available.

Healthcare Navigation Program

We help individuals and families connect with healthcare services, understand available resources, and navigate the healthcare system. Our goal is to reduce barriers so that people can better understand their options and access the care they need.

Legal Assistance & Immigration Support Program

Navigating immigration and other legal matters can be challenging. We connect New Mainers with trusted legal resources, including free walk-in immigration legal clinics hosted in partnership with the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP). We also collaborate with Catholic Charities to help refugees, asylees, and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders access legal assistance.

Education Program

Learning opens doors to opportunity and participation. We support educational opportunities through free English classes, family learning opportunities, and community-facing educational events that promote learning, understanding, and inclusion.

Community Connection Program

Belonging grows through relationships and shared experiences. We build connections through community partnerships, cultural gatherings, celebrations, free museum admission, bicycles, emergency food assistance, and other shared resources that help families participate in community life.

MMCC can help new Mainers connect to local service providers. If you need information or a referral to a local service provider, call (207) 307-7154 or email info@mainemulticulturalcenter.org
