Statement on Ukraine

We at the Maine MultiCultural Center have watched with alarm as Russia has invaded Ukraine. We support the use of economic sanctions against Russia, and delivery of humanitarian aid to the over 1 million who have fled for safety and to those who have stayed behind to defend their country.

We call upon our government to facilitate and expedite the resettlement of those displaced Ukrainians who wish to immigrate to the United States.  We call upon the State of Maine, and members of the greater Bangor community to welcome the resettlement of our Ukrainian friends in our communities, and to provide the support necessary for them to successfully integrate into those communities.  We believe that these New Mainers have the potential to breathe new life into our dwindling workforce and to enrich us culturally.  Maine MultiCultural Center stands ready to provide welcoming and integrative services to any immigrants who might choose to relocate to our area.
